We are working on the last investigation in Moving Straight Ahead. I have the unit test scheduled for next Wednesday, September 24th. Our homework schedule is a little different due to the test.

Today I am talking to the students about the unit test. I reminded then that they can correct homework for full credit and correct quizzes for half-credit, but there are no corrections on unit tests.

I give the study guide a week before the test to give them time to practice. I have asked them to spend 15 minutes each day working on the study guide. We will review in class next week and I will offer a study session before/after school (time to be determined).

I have adjusted homework and classwork after our snow days. Update to week of May 6th

As I'm doing lesson plans this week, I realized that next week is our last full week! It seems each year goes more quickly than the last. I have really enjoyed the students this year. I wish them great success in high school!
Here are a few updates (there will probably be more):

• We will have a final quiz over the Shapes of Algebra next Wednesday.
• Any missing work/corrections from this unit are due by Thursday, May 16th @ 3:45pm
• Tomorrow I will give the students their score for the Kansas Math Assessment. Each class met one of their goals and we will celebrate next Friday, May 17th.
• Tomorrow I will give out DMCT scores (there are a few students that need to finish the test). Remember, an 80% is passing and this is a district test required for high school graduation.

We are moving more slowly through the Shapes of Algebra than I had planned for this week. Instead of finishing 3.2 today we are finishing 3.1. Because of this the homework I assigned for today cannot be completed yet. I told the students that if they turned in today's homework (Inequalities Practice) they do not have homework this weekend! If they didn't turn in today's homework they need to finish it and turn it in Monday.

On Monday and Tuesday we will take the DMCT. We will go back to the book on Wednesday.

 I hope everyone enjoyed our snow days on Thursday and Friday! It will be interesting to see if we have any more snow days this week!
The plan this week is to review on Monday and Tuesday and take the state assessment on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
We may have to keep our original testing days of Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. If this is the case we will start a new book on Friday called Growing, Growing, Growing and students will have homework over scientific notation due Monday, March 4th. Otherwise, there is no homework this week.

Week of January 7th

We are continuing Investigation 1 in our new book, Looking For Pythagoras. This Friday 8th graders will take the ACT Explore Test during 1st - 3rd hours. We will not meet for regular class on Friday. There will still be 3 homework assignments this week, but I have extended the due date for Wednesday's homework to Monday. Students may turn that assignment in before Monday if they would prefer not to have two assignments over the weekend.

Monday: LFP Problem 1.2/1.3 and Squares/Square Roots
    Homework: Finding Area Practice due Wednesday

Tuesday: Continue Problem 1.3

Wednesday: Begin LFP Investigation 2
    Homework: Square Root Practice (due date extended to Monday)

Welcome to 2nd semester!

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful break! With the new semester we are starting a new unit. Our book is called Looking For Pythagoras. We will learn all about the Pythagorean Theorem and why it works.

Thursday: Hand out new book and begin Problem 1.1
    Homework: LFP pg. 12 #1-7 due Monday

Friday: Finish Problem 1.1 and start Problem 1.2

Please make sure your student has plenty of pencils and paper to start the new semester.
