We started our book Thinking With Mathematical Models on Friday and the kids really enjoyed the bridge building activity. We will continue to test bridges this week.

Week of November 18th

We are finishing our book Looking For Pythagoras (LFP) this week with the unit test on Thursday. On Friday we will start a new book called Thinking With Mathematical Models (TWMM).

I will have two review sessions in preparation for the test- Wednesday from 3:15pm-3:45pm and Thursday from 7:15am to 7:45am.

Monday: LFP Problem 5.1
    HW: Study guide is due tomorrow for review. I would like students to review their study guide each night for 10-15 minutes in preparation for the test.

    HW: Equation Practice due Monday - We will review how to solve equations on bell work today. I will ask students to use the bell work to complete the homework assignment. If you are helping them with homework please ask them where the bell work is to see completed problems.

Week of November 11th

I love that today is 11/12/13! We are continuing Looking For Pythagoras. This week we will finish Investigation 3 and start Investigation 5. We are almost finished with this book and will have the unit test on Thursday, November 21st. Students will get a study guide on Thursday that will be due the day of the test.
Any missing work/corrections from this unit are due by Tuesday, November 19th.

I apologize for the late post this week. Many of you may know my family was in a car accident on Saturday night. Today is my first day back to school and I have taken time to talk to the kids and assure them that we are okay.
I have gotten behind on grading and I will work this week to get caught up.

This is a short week because of Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences. Mrs. Jennings sent an email to sign up for conferences during the following times: Tues, Oct. 22 4-8pm and Thurs, Oct. 24 9am-6pm. If you haven't signed up yet, please take a moment to do that. I would love to see you there.

I think the students are enjoying Looking For Pythagoras. It's very different from our last book! This week we are working on Investigation 2. We only have 2 homework assignments this week due to our short school week.

We took the unit test on Friday for Moving Straight Ahead and I was very pleased with how most students did on the test. I am collecting the books (blue) today and we are checking out new books from the library. Our new unit is called Looking for Pythagoras, all about the Pythagorean Theorem!

Wow! I don't know where September went! We are finishing our unit Moving Straight Ahead this week. Our unit test is this Friday. The students were given a study guide on Friday that will be due the day of the test. It is worth 25 points.
Also, any missing work or corrections from this unit are due by Friday, October 4th at 3:45pm. We will move to a new unit next week.

The end of the school year is always a bittersweet time. I am ready for summer break, but I will also miss the kids I've had the privilege of teaching this year. It was great to see them last night at promotion. I know they are excited to start this new chapter in their lives. I wish them all great success in high school!

Update to week of May 6th

As I'm doing lesson plans this week, I realized that next week is our last full week! It seems each year goes more quickly than the last. I have really enjoyed the students this year. I wish them great success in high school!
Here are a few updates (there will probably be more):

• We will have a final quiz over the Shapes of Algebra next Wednesday.
• Any missing work/corrections from this unit are due by Thursday, May 16th @ 3:45pm
• Tomorrow I will give the students their score for the Kansas Math Assessment. Each class met one of their goals and we will celebrate next Friday, May 17th.
• Tomorrow I will give out DMCT scores (there are a few students that need to finish the test). Remember, an 80% is passing and this is a district test required for high school graduation.

Update to week of April 29th

We are moving more slowly through the Shapes of Algebra than I had planned for this week. Instead of finishing 3.2 today we are finishing 3.1. Because of this the homework I assigned for today cannot be completed yet. I told the students that if they turned in today's homework (Inequalities Practice) they do not have homework this weekend! If they didn't turn in today's homework they need to finish it and turn it in Monday.

On Monday and Tuesday we will take the DMCT. We will go back to the book on Wednesday.
